The Garden Design Process

It all starts with an initial consultation to discuss your existing space or garden, and how you want to use the space.

Often clients tell me that they don’t know what they want, but through discussion, I can help you to reach some conclusions. Then my role as designer is to put forward options that meet your needs and ultimately a design that makes that idea a reality.

If starting a garden from scratch, the design will typically involve two key stages.

Masterplan

The first stage starts with a detailed survey of the existing site, followed by the production of a concept or presentation plan.  This is the document that shows you the initial design for the space. It will show you how the space will be organised and should include all of the elements you have agreed with the designer.

Once you have agreed the initial concept then a Masterplan is agreed and this will include all the materials specified for the design, accurately reflected within the plans.

Planting plan

Then the second stage would be a full planting plan which specifies which plants are to be planted within the garden and exactly where they are to be placed.

Further services such as setting out plans and construction drawings can be produced as required.

Getting the garden built

This is the stage at which you would engage a contractor to build the garden, with all the hard landscaping. Then I can source the plants for you and come on site once the hard landscaping has been completed and plant up the garden.
